In order to share worries of migrant workers
for their children during summer vacation, Dandelion
Middle School held a summer camp for migrant
children for free in the summer of 2005. This
summer camp lasted through July 27th, to August
5th, and there were sixty migrant children joined
this program.
The purpose of this summer camp was to help
the students to increase their interests on
English, teach them basic knowledge of computer,
and enhance their ability of speaking mandarin.
These sixty children were separated into three
classes, every class had their own names. During
the ten days, teachers and students live in
the school together. The students also had chance
to choose classes about Chinese character writing,
music, or drawing.
Many children felt it was a great chance for
them to promote their ability of computer science
and English. A lot of them said they had built
up more interests on English after they participated
in this summer camp.
The teachers were not only taught knowledge
to the students, but helped them have a positive
attitude towards life. During these ten days,
students were helped a lot to build confidence.
The summer camp also organized them to a nursing
home to volunteer there one day. The teacher
said it can help them understand the importance
to help others while they received help from
others.
At the same time, there were some volunteers
from various universities in Beijing. They said
it was a wonderful opportunity for them to train
their abilities and help others. Even though
sometimes they felt very tired, they were very
happy.
